The Diamond is a ship, me lads, for the Davis Strait we’re bound, And the harbor is all crowded with the bonnie lasses round. The captain gives the orders to sail the ocean wide, Where the sun it never sets, me lads, nor darkness dims the skies. For it’s cheer up, me lads, let your hearts never fail, For the bonnie ship the Diamond goes a-fishin’ for the whale. Here’s health to the Resolution and the fair Eliza Swan, The Battler out of Montrose and the Diamond, sailing on. We catch the northern wind, lads, and the sails are flying free, And she pitches onward evermore through the wild, rolling sea. For bright it is both day and night, as the sailing lads turn home, While the fair wind bears them onward, and no farther now to roam. Then the old songs wake the harbor, from the town out to the shore, And there’ll not be much for sleeping, lads, when the Diamond’s home once more.
